Current (2009-2010)

Chairs

Melissa Gross (mgross at umail.ucsb dot edu)

I’m a third year CS major and one of the two Co-Chairs for UCSB’s ACM chapter, along with Rahul. We’re hoping to expand the ACM to include more students, as well as involving current members with the programming project, the mentor program, and the tutoring program. There are also quite a few seminars and infosessions planned with local and national companies coming to recruit, so come to the weekly meetings and get involved.

Rahul Kapadia (rahulkapadia at umail.ucsb dot edu)

Hello World: My name is Rahul Kapadia. I am a second year computer science student at the University of California, Santa Barbara. One of the reasons I enjoy being the co-chair for the ACM is because I get to use my creativity to plan events for the club. During my free time, I like to code, exercise, and play sports with my friends.

Coordinators

Steven Bluen (Events) (sbluen at umail dot ucsb dot edu)

I am a computer science student working to become game designer for 3d atillery-type games. I’ve been interested in electronics since the first time I saw them and started programming in 11th grade. As the event coordinater for the ACM, I help to support the group’s efforts to make it’s events work out smoothly.

Joshua Chamberlain (Project) (chamberlain.jmc at gmail dot com)

I’m a second year computer engineering major. As the Project Coordinator for the ACM, I am working towards providing every ACM member with the opportunity to participate in a programing project of larger scale and complexity than typically completed in undergraduate CS cources. If you would like to participate in this year’s project, or if you would like help getting started on a personal project, feel free to email me.

Michael Rosengarten (Workshops) (mfrosengarten at gmail dot com)

I graduated from UCSB in 2009, and have since been working on a web platform with Ruby on Rails. Before I graduated, I’ve had a few summer internships with local software companies like Think Effect and CallWave. I’m planning on eventually teaching some workshops available through GOLD for Ruby on Rails and maybe some other languages.

Sarah Jones (Drop-In Tutorial Group Manager) (sarahejones at cs dot ucsb dot edu)

Hello! I am a second year CS major and ACM’s tutoring coordinator. I keep track of tutors and scheduling and am available as a tutor during most of our scheduled hours. The new lower-division CS courses have shifted gears to start with Python, C, and C++ instead of Java, but we are happy to help with all four languages. Please email me if you are interested in volunteering to tutor.

TJ Koblentz (Mentor Program) (tj.koblentz at gmail dot com)

I’m a second year computer science major, and the mentor program coordinator for the ACM. The mentor program is one of our two “outreach” programs, the other being tutoring for lower division students which Sarah runs. The mentor program is designed to pair freshmen in the Computer Science major with second, third, and fourth year students to help them with the transition into college, homework, and other difficulties.

Secretary/Webmaster

Rob Millikin (o310362 at gmail dot com)

I’m a second year CS major, and am the treasurer/secretary/webmaster for the ACM this year. Most of the what I do is behind-the-scenes financial stuff, but I also try to keep the website updated as often as possible with new events that are announced at the meetings – if you’re looking for an internship or some other event, check out the “Events” tab of this site. Personally, I spent my (small…) amounts of free time playing World of Warcraft and other PC games.
