Programming Project

About the project:

Borrowing from previous years’ efforts, the ACM has begun the year with a new programming project to involve all members of our ACM chapter. The goals of the project are to challenge senior members, inspire new members, and to keep the club innovative and fun.

The project itself is planned to be a 2-D fighting game similar in style to the popular Super Smash Brothers console games, involving different UCSB academic majors as the characters (Psychology majors might have psychic powers, for example). Because the quarter has just started and the project is still in its infancy, there are still many details to be hashed out – please take any information here with a grain of salt. Much could still change as the project is being defined and created.

For Fall Quarter 2009, the objective is to iron out these details and develop a solid framework for the game, facilitating completion of the project by the end of the school year.

How to get involved:

This core development will be done with a team of dedicated ACM developers. For club members that are interested in contributing to the project, but are concerned about their availability and coding skills, there will be an excellent opportunity in Winter quarter – there will be more details as it approaches.

If you are interested in developing the back-end end framework, or even just seeing how a game is developed, you are invited to join the team this quarter. You can contact Joshua Chamberlain (chamberlain.jmc at gmail dot com) to join the Google Group, and you can attend our weekly meetings on Saturdays at 2:00pm, in the De Anza Resource Center room 1018.
